Fear Grips Ministers Over Impending Cabinet Reshuffle

President Goodluck Jonathan’s inability to convene the very first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting for 2014 has raised fears in certain quarters that he may have concluded plans to sack some of his ministers.

Weekly FEC meeting did not hold, even as President Jonathan was in his office attending to his official duty in his office.

No official reason was given for as to why the council meeting was cancelled.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the president may have pencilled down some of his ministers who would be relieved of their positions in another major cabinet reshuffle, particularly ministers who are pursuing harbour ambitions to become governors.

According to report in the media late last year, the ministers to be affected by the exercise are from seven states, with Benue State accounting for two of the ministers.

The said report had quoted a presidency source as saying President Jonathan’s resolve to fire the ministers with governorship aspirations was partly responsible for the delay in filling the vacant ministerial positions that had been open since nine ministers were sacked in September last year.
