More Presidential Aides To Go - Insider

A report on The Cable.ng claims that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to sack more of his personal aides who have been taking advantage of their positions to cut deals with those seeking favour from the president.

A security source revealed that hundreds of millions of naira were recently discovered in the accounts of some of the aides, with the suspicion that some of the aides have started receiving monetary rewards from outsiders.

It has been a recurring issue in the government of various Nigerian presidents as close aides of the number one citizen use their positions to collect bribes, exploit desperate politicians and businessmen.

Last week Friday, Buhari fired his chief security officer (CSO), Abdulrahman Mani, and Widi Liman, administrative officer (AO), for abusing their positions.

Mani, in particular, was accused of giving out information on the president's itinerary  to the former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke,  when he travelled to London before his inauguration.

An insider told The Cable: “The president was very angry to learn of the leak to Diezani, but that was just one of Mani’s sins. There was also the case of a police officer who has been serving at the presidential villa for years.

During a recent shake-up, Mani told the inspector general of police (Sunday Arase) that Buhari said the officer should be retained. Arase eventually met with Buhari and tried to confirm if it was true he wanted the officer retained. Buhari said he never gave such an order. Arase said, ‘But your CSO told me you did.’

The president was so angry that he summoned Mani and tongue-lashed him. He then walked Mani out of his office. This is nothing but treachery.”

Mani was also alleged to be was regularly passing information on Buhari to the recently sacked Director Geeneral of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ita Ekpenyong.

“At some stage, Buhari told his associates that he had begun to ask himself how he trusted Mani so much to get so close to him, ” the insider added.

Mani's cup was however full after the embarrassing altercation between the DSS and the military over the security of the presidential villa.

Buhari's Aide De Camp (ADC), Mohammed Abubakar had issued a memo limiting the DSS operatives to certain areas in the presidential villa, but Mani, acting on the instructions of Ekpenyong, issued a counter order.

“Mani’s audacity meant the president had had enough. It was a catalogue of offences and things only got worse by the day. Plus, Buhari has been suspicious of DSS officials all along because of the very partisan role they played under for President Goodluck Jonathan. They did not do anything to allay his fears,” another insider revealed.

Meanwhile, traditional northern monarchs, visited President Buhari recently to declare their support for the government’s battle against insecurity and the economy crisis the country is facing.
