Two PDP Chieftains Shot Dead In Benue

Two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party were killed in Gbinde, Ushongo LGA, Benue state.

Benue police public relations officer, ASP Austin Ezeani, confirmed this to NAN on March 12, Thursday, in Makurdi.

The official provided the names of the deceased: Agbatse Tarkighir and Degeh Ayaahemba. The victims were the ruling party leaders at the council level.

The politicians were said to be heading from Katsina, Katsina-Ala to Adikpo on Wednesday, when unknown assailants suddenly overtook their bus and started shooting.

Two other passengers of the bus were injured and rushed to the hospital at Ushongo.

Ezeani refrained from jumping to conclusions, saying that the motive for the murders was yet to be ascertained. He assured the public that the police would find and punish the criminals.

"I appeal to you not to take delight in killing your fellow human beings, even if the police do not get you, remember that you will never escape the wrath of God.

"Remember the commandments of God, especially now that you approach the elections.

"Assist the police to apprehend criminals; those people who commit those atrocities are not spirits, they leave in your vicinities and dwell amongst you, so help us to protect you."
