Chime Makes First Public Appearance

The inauguration of administrators for the 57 development centres at the Okpara Square Enugu, Enugu State yesterday was Governor Sullivan Chime’s first public appearance since he travelled abroad for medical treatment in September last year.

The governor, who returned in February had by his showing at the event also put to bed recent death rumour orchestrated in the Iinternet. Inaugurating the administrators, Chime said it was part of the efforts of the state government to bring democracy and governance to the doorsteps of the masses.

The governor also presented brand new cars to the administrators, explaining that the gesture was intended to enhance the performance of the beneficiaries in their different locations. He noted that the administrators were to assist the chairmen of the 17 local governments in the state in ensuring that development reached the grassroots rapidly and effectively. The governor noted that the appointment of the administrators was a product of the consultation with the people of their respective development centres, adding that they owed their appointments to the people whom they must now serve with diligence and commitment.

Chime also stressed that the administrators were not to operate as sole heads, saying they were merely leaders of committees whose other members would soon be announced. “We are to inaugurate men and women who will be directly in touch with the people. I must emphasise that their appointments were a product of consultation with the people.

“So even though you were not elected, you are still as popular as the other elected officials and you owe your appointments to the people. You must therefore serve diligently and with commitment.”
