  • Brighton vs Arsenal saw the hosts get a staggering 21 attempts on goal but could not find the back of the net
  • The two sides cancelled each other for large parts of the game, and eventually settled for a point each
  • Arsenal, thanks to the draw, extended their unbeaten run to four matches as the Gunners also showed some resolute defending for their third clean sheet in four games

Arsenal extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to four games after an entertaining 0-0 draw against a wasteful Brighton and Hove Albion side.

Graham Potter’s side have been the surprise packages this season, and they thoroughly dominated possession and chances created, but were guilty of bluntness in front of goal.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang provided Arsenal’s best chance in the game as his first-half effort came off the post, while Shane Duffy squandered Brighton’s chance late in the game.

In a game that produced 29 shots, Brighton had 21 of those and Graham Potter will be wondering how his side failed to convert one of the chances.

Leandro Trossard and Neal Maupay were guilty of some poor finishing, while Dan Burn provided his side’s best chance but he somehow headed over the bar from point blank range.

In the second half, Arsenal had the chance to grab a shock lead in a rare counter attack but Emile Smith Rowe fired straight at the goalkeeper when he should have fed the ball to Nicolas Pepe, who was in a better position.

The biggest positive for Brighton on the day was the fact that former Barcelona wing-back Marc Cucurella was a constant nuisance, and is showing a lot of promise going forward.

There were mild penalty appeals from both sides late in the game, with Smith-Rowe adjudged to have gone down a bit too easily under a Shane Duffy challenge, while Arsenal defender Gabriel narrowly evaded punishment after it looked like he tugged back a Brighton defender.

Arsenal will probably be the happier of the two with the point, as Arteta continues his side’s revival after a torrid start to the season.

Chelsea leave it late vs Southampton

In the other Saturday game, Chelsea scored late goals to defeat 10-man Southampton in a cracker at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues started the Premier League tie impressively looking for the early goal against their visitors and they had to wait until the 9th minute before Trevoh Chalobah gave them the lead.

Southampton were reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute as James Ward Prowse later turned villain initially receiving a yellow card which was later upgraded.
