COVID-19: FG Reveals Why Unvaccinated Nigerians May be Barred From Government Facilities

A report by The Punch indicates that the federal government may consider barring unvaccinated individuals if the COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy being witnessed continues.

According to the report, Nigerians risk been barred from accessing government facilities, among other public places.

The secretary to Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Dr Mukhtar Muhammed, on Friday, September 17, said there are no such plans at the moment, but the government would consider the move if it became necessary.

Muhammed explained that the decision would only be taken if the government did not notice any significant improvement after the ongoing enlightenment and engagement of the COVID-19 vaccine across the country.

FG to announce decision on compulsory COVID-19 vaccination for federal workers

Recall that the federal government on Thursday, September 2, revealed that it was making plans towards making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for federal civil servants.

Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, made this known during the meeting of the health commissioners forum with federal ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and health partners in Abuja.

He explained that the mandatory vaccination had become imperative due to the role federal civil servants perform not just within the country but also on behalf of the government.

Meanwhile, the Edo state government has barred unvaccinated civil servants from their offices, effective from Wednesday, September 15.

The state government also barred all those who are yet to take the COVID vaccine from accessing public places.

This was announced on Tuesday, September 14, by the permanent secretary, Edo state Ministry of Health, Osamwonyi Irowa.

Mass roll-out as FG takes COVID-19 vaccination to churches

The federal government has announced its plan to take COVID-19 vaccination to Christian worship centres.

The executive director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 14, in Abuja, during the sensitization of Christian leaders on the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination.

Shuaib explained that the agency decided to introduce "Sunday vaccination" in a bid to ensure that members of the Christian community have the opportunity to be vaccinated at their churches.
