Police Reveal Those Responsible for the Killing of Sowore’s Younger Brother

Edo state - The Edo state police command has disclosed the details surrounding the killing of Felix Olajide Sowore, the younger brother of a human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.

A spokesperson for the command, Kontongs Bello, disclosed that Olajide Sowore, a pharmacy student of Igbinedion University Okada, was shot by suspected kidnappers around 6am on Saturday, September 4, The Nation reported.

Bello stated that the incident occurred along the Lagos-Benin Expressway by Isuwa when the kidnappers abducted five unidentified persons and in the process shot to death one Olajide Sowore to death.

According to The Punch, police disclosed that the body of the deceased has been deposited at Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH) mortuary okada

He said the effort is ongoing to rescue the five kidnap victims. Search and rescue operation is ongoing.

Insecurity: FG orders total shut down of telecom services in northern state

Meanwhile, the federal government has reportedly ordered telecom networks to shut down services operating in Zamfara state for two weeks over the worsening security situation in the state.

According to The Guardian, the directive was issued on Friday, September 3, by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to all telecommunications providers in the country.

The publication stated that the order was issued in a letter signed by the executive vice-chairman and chief executive officer of NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta.

In another news, the Katsina state government has disclosed that paying ransoms to bandits and kidnappers is a waste of efforts and public funds.

According to the state's commissioner for security matters, Ibrahim Ahmed Katsina, the government at a time offered amnesty to abductors and armed criminals but along the line, it did not work because they went back to their evil activities.

Katsina told Leadership on Thursday, August 19, that the betrayal was part of what necessitated Governor Aminu Bello Masari's call to the people for self-defense.
