In Nigeria, this is a persistent reality. Available data shows that over 53,000 women die annually at childbirth and over 240,000 children die in the first 28 days after birth due to poor facilities, poverty, illiteracy amongst others.

Developing a sense of obligation to combat this teeming problem, Coca-Cola, in 2018, collaborated with the Federal government through the Federal Ministry of Health, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals and an NGO, Medshare International Inc., to launch the Safe Birth Initiative – a program intended to improve the maternal and neonatal mortality rate in Nigeria.

Three years later, the company has recorded impressive feats in actualizing its goals for the initiative, which is to contribute significantly in helping the country attain SDG 3 which focuses on good health and wellbeing impacting over 12,000 mothers and babies.
