It’s Too Early for Buhari To Support Any Aspirant for 2023 Presidency, Femi Adesina Says

Nigerians who believe President Muhammadu Buhari has already pitched his camp in respect of the 2023 presidential election can have a rethink.

According to Femi Adesina, presidential spokesperson, it is too early for the president to support any aspirant for the presidency, The Cable reports.

He said this while responding to reports on if Buhari’s recent visit to Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), featured talks on the 2023 elections.

According to Adesina, the meeting between Buhari and Tinubu was a “goodwill visit”.

He said:

“That meeting actually happened, but it is all about goodwill and best wishes. We know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been in London about the same time the president was there.
“The president still has two years less three months in his tenure of office. So, for him to start supporting somebody now will just be like jumping the gun and you know that President Buhari will never do that."haps a candidate of the party emerges. Knowing President Buhari, he will never jump the gun.”

Meanwhile, Doyin Okupe, a former senior aide to ex-Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are the same.

The Ogun state-born politician said there’s not much separating the two Nigerian political parties as up to 70 per cent of people who control power in the APC today were all members of the PDP.

Okupe stated this on Friday, August 13, when he featured on an ARISE News TV programme anchored by a frontline journalist, Reuben Abati, and others. He mentioned the present and former governors of Ogun state as members who have held sway in the PDP but now find themselves as leaders in the APC.

Also, a former national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Muhammad Jega, has advised the Nigerian electorate on what to do in the next general elections.

Jega who spoke with BBC Hausa on Monday, August 2, in Kaduna, lamented that for the past 20 years, both the APC and the PDP have failed to revive the nation's economy.

The former INEC boss said the foremost political platforms in the country have been nothing but bad antecedents whose influences should not be given any chance in 2023.
