Buhari mourns Gani Fawehinmi's son, says he did justice to the memory of his father

  • Buhari has commiserated with the Fawehinmis over the death of their son, Mohammed, in a Lagos hospital
  • The president urged the family to find comfort in God during the trying times because the deceased had fought well despite his condition
  • Going further, the president praised the deceased for doing justice to the memory of his late father, Gani

President Muhammadu Buhari has lamented the death of Mohammed Fawehinmi. Mohammed who was the first son of late Gani Fawehinmi died in Lagos on Wednesday, August 11.

According to the president in a statement posted on Facebook by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Mohammed did justice to the memory of his late father, Gani Fawehinmi.

The statement read:

“The president condoles with Ganiat, mother of the deceased, and the entire family, urging them to find comfort in God, who gives and takes, and to draw consolation in the fact that the departed robustly fought a debilitating condition, which confined him to the wheelchair for many years.

“His body may have been broken, but his spirit was virile, agile, and he kept the flag of the family flying, doing justice to the memory of his late father,” the statement read in part."

Nigerians react

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Nigerians have taken to social media to mourn the death of Mohammed, first son of the late activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Gani Fawehinmi. Mohammed who had a terrible accident that affected his spinal cord in 2003 passed on in Lagos on Wednesday, August 11.

Among those who mourned the late Mohammed were Richard Akinnola, Omoyele Sorore, Festus Keyamo, and thousands of Nigerians on social media.

In his reaction, Akinnola, a celebrated Nigerian writer, lawyer, who enjoyed a close relationship with the Fawehinmis, recalled some of the fond moments he had with the late Mohammed.

Mohammed Fawehinmi dies

Recall that Legit.ng had earlier reported that the family of Chief Gani Fawehinmi lost the first child of the late legal luminary, to the cold hands of death.

Mohammed Fawehinmi died after complaining of difficulty in breathing on Wednesday, August 11, at the age of 52 years

The deceased who managed the law firm left by his father was said to have breathed his last in an undisclosed hospital
