PDP Deputy Governor Raises Alarm Over Impeachment Plans Against him Despite Court Order

Zamfara state - It appears impeachment plans against Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, the deputy governor of Zamfara state seems to be ongoing despite a court order restraining the state House of Assembly.

Daily Trust reports that Gusau on Thursday, July 29, while speaking to newsmen said that the proceeding against him is indecorous and unlawful.

The deputy governor said the action by the speaker of the Zamfara state House of Assembly and members of the chamber constitutes disobedience to the court order and will be tantamount to a flagrant breach of law.

According to him, the House of Assembly has embarked on steps and actions to overreach the pending suit which renders the effect of the courtcase meaningless, P.M News added.

Abuja court stops planned impeachment of PDP deputy governor

Earlier, a Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Zamfara state House of Assembly from impeaching the deputy governor of the state, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.

The court issued the order on Monday, July 19, after granting an ex parte motion filed by a lawyer, Ogwu James Onoja, on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As part of the order, Justice Obiora Egwuatu also retrained the governor of Zamfara state and the chief judge of the state from holding proceedings relating to any planned impeachment of Mahdi Gusau.

Zamfara assembly issues fresh order to embattled deputy governor

Meanwhile, the deputy governor of Zamfara has been given a two-day ultimatum to appear before the state House of Assembly over allegations of misconduct on his part.

Gusau is to explain to the House why he embarked on a political rally in the state at a time when the activities of bandits were high, thereby endangering the lives of many persons.

This decision came after a motion submitted by the deputy leader of the assembly, Nasiru Bello Bungudu.
