COVID-19: NCDC Releases Latest List of States Hit by Third Wave

According to the latest of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) published on Tuesday, July 27, the nation recorded 404 new cases of COVID-19 as Lagos tops the list of affected states with 356 new infections.

The figure has raised the total number of cases in Nigeria to 171,728 as recorded by the NCDC on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

Tuesday's record, according to reliable statistics, is the highest the country has recorded in four months, Premium Times reports.

At the moment, the death toll has spiked to 2,134 while there are 164,837 discharged patients who are certified to have fully recovered from the ravaging virus.

Full list: Lagos state places 14 countries on COVID-19 watchlist

Meanwhile, the ministry of health in Lagos on Wednesday, May 12, revealed its decision to place a series of protocols for passengers from 14 countries that are now on the state government's COVID-19 watchlist.

Professor Akin Abayomi, the commissioner for health in Lagos, announced in a press briefing that this is one of the government's drastic measures to prevent a third wave of the pandemic in the state.

Abayomi noted that that the affected nations fell into a category regarded as the amber zone countries.

He stated:

“From the Lagos perspective, we’re also looking at what we describe as Amber Colour countries, where we know that mutants are circulating. And this is important for us to be able to define how strict our monitoring of your isolation at home and how your testing is performed.
"We are monitoring countries where we know the mutants are circulating, but the situation is still severe..."
