I Don’t Need Your Cheques, President Buhari Tells Contractors

The priviledged have been urged to help the less priviledged. This admonition was issued by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The president specifically directed this at contractors who have enjoyed government patronage as well as other privileged citizens.

He disclosed this when he paid a visit to the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar, The Nation reports.

In a statement by a senior special assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the president was quoted to have said that passing gifts and ‘cheques’ to people in authority or already comfortable to buy favour is not the right approach.

“I don’t want tour cheque. Go and assist our communities” instead of trying to return kickbacks to public officers, including his office.
“We don’t want cheques from anyone or organisation as returns or influence of any kind. Let them remember their Corporate Social Responsibilities."

Meanwhile, Buhari said he would have loved to visit Daua more often but will not do so because of the costs it entails.

He said the money can be used for other things that will benefit the people.

“But the cost to the movement is high. I would rather that it be used to better our schools, clinics and hospitals."

Buhari expresses worry over lingering banditry in northwest

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Buhari expressed concern in his Daura country home Katsina state, on Thursday, July 22, about the lingering banditry in the northwest.

He described the situation as most disturbing and a source of concern to him because the bandits and their victims belong to the same tribe and religion.

Gunmen abduct 80-year-old mum of Bayelsa SSG

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that some suspected gunmen dressed in military camouflage stormed the residence of Betinah Benson and kidnapped her to an unknown destination.

It was reported that the victim, aged 80, is the mother of Kombowei Benson, Secretary to the Bayelsa state government.

The Bayelsa state police command in a statement signed by the spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, confirmed that some of the suspects have been arrested.
