After Euro 2020 Loss, 6 Other Times Harry Kane Has Missed Winning Trophies

One of the less-looked at subplots in the just concluded Euros is the fact that some England stars are still searching for that elusive piece of silverware.

Defeat to Italy in the final meant that England star Harry Kane is still yet to taste some silverware glory, which is quite unfortunate when one looks at his numbers as a player.

Not only is Kane Tottenham’s record goalscorer, but he has also morphed into one of the most lethal strikers in the modern game.

Jose Mourinho’s tenure with the North London club also unlocked a new element to Kane’s game - assisting.

However, despite all the individual accolades that he has garnered over the years, trophies just do not seem to fancy Harry Kane very much.

Here are several incidences where Kane narrowly missed out on what could have been a stellar campaign as far as silverware is concerned.

1. Carabao Cup final 2015

The Carabao cup final in 2015 was one which placed Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur, and was the Blues who came out on top thanks to goals from John Terry and Diego Costa.

To be fair, Kane was only 21 at the time although the defeat was just as painful as he would have clinched his first-ever piece of silverware.

2. Misses out on league title in 2016

Who can forget the incredible title win by Leicester City in 2016?

At the time, Tottenham was the best-placed side to catch up to the Foxes with a handful of games to go.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side faced Chelsea knowing anything short of a win would hand the Foxes the title.

In a cruel twist of fate, Spurs squandered a two-goal lead as Chelsea came from behind to force the game to a 2-2 draw, confirming another trophyless campaign for both Spurs and Kane.

3. Knocked out of FA Cup semi-final in 2017 after going 1-0 up

In 2017, Spurs were once again on a roll, this time in the FA Cup, and were tipped to win the competition after a superb run.

Despite going 1-0 up in the semis, the North London side once again capitulated against Manchester United to lose the game 2-1.

United would go on to lose the final to Chelsea.

4. Knocked out of World Cup semis in 2018 after going 1-0 up

On the international front, Kane tasted his first disappointment in the World Cuo when his England side blew their best chance to make the World cup final.

The Three Lions were 1-0 up against Croatia but Luka Modric side came back through Ivan Perisic, who scored in the 68th minute to force the game to extra time.

Mario Mandzukic then scored in extra time to eliminate England, who were again heavy favourites once the competition entered the semi final stage.

5. Lost Champions League final in 2019

Back with Tottenham, Harry Kane’s side lost the Champions League final to Liverpool in 2019 as Jurgen Klopp’s men cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win.

6. Lost Carabao Cup final again in 2021

The Carabao Cup final in April provided for the perfect chance for Kane to get his first silverware for Spurs as they came up against Manchester City.

But the club had just sacked Jose Mourinho and had to play the game under the guidance of interim boss Ryan Mason, who couldn’t stop his side from losing 1-0 to the Premier League Champions.

7. Lost in Euro 2020 final despite England’s good run

Kane’s latest slice of disappointment came in the Euro 2020 final where England lost to Italy on penalties.

At the end of the 2020/21 season, Harry Kane did an honest interview where he opened the door for a potential exit from Spurs.

Man City were favourites to sign the England forward but Pep Guardiola has since stated the club for a potential exit from Spurs.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that England bowed out of Euro 2020 with a silver medal but their fans are disappointed with players for immediately removing their runners-up medals, Sport Bible.
