Thomas Tuchel is expected to be handed significant funds to invest in new signings following a bright start to life at Stamford Bridge.

The attacking department is among those Tuchel is desperate to strengthen, and had put Sancho on his wishlist for the role.

However, according to The Times, United are in the driving seat in the transfer race and are close to capturing the former Man City star.

The outlet added the Old Trafford dwellers feel vindicated on their decision not to concede to Dortmund's demands last summer.

Sancho is expected to a long-term solution to United's right-wing problem after Dan James failing to live up to his billing.

Youngster Mason Greenwood had initially laid claim to the position but the club see his future playing through the middle.

The development surrounding Sancho's transfer came only days after it emerged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had prioritised it.
