The Indomitable Lions defeated Nigeria 1-0 at the Wiener Neustadt Stadium last weekend courtesy of Zambo Anguissa's lone effort in the 37th minute of the game.

This is also their first win over the Eagles since their win in the final of the continental competition in 2000 as reported by Guardian newspaper quoting Camfoot.

But in spite of his side's performance in their last meeting a couple of days back, Conceicao admits that his players must step up their game as they host the AFCON championshi[p next year. He said:

“This victory facilitates our work. That is to say that we are on a good path. It is always much easier to work on victories than on more negative results.
“It will go down in history, but the most important thing is to see the behavior of my players both individually and collectively.
“We took notes; we saw positive things. Logically we need time to improve. We are not yet perfect, but I am very satisfied with the attitude and professionalism of my players.”

Both teams face off again tomorrow as they complete the second leg of their double-header friendly clash.

Vincent Onovo gets maiden national team call up

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria's technical adviser Gernot Rohr has handed Hungary-based football star Vincent Onovo his maiden senior team call-up.

The 25-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Ujpest FC will replace assistant captain William Troost-Ekong for the friendly game against Cameroon on Tuesday, June 8.

Ekong withdrew from the second game with the Indomitable Lions after picking up an injury in their earlier fixture last weekend.
