Security Operatives Invade IPOB Lawyer’s Home in Anambra State

- The clampdown in secessionists and their sympathizers seems to be ongoing in the southeast region of Nigeria

- Lawyer to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had his home invaded by security forces

Anambra - Security operatives comprising the police, army and personnel of the Department of State Services on Sunday, June 6 invaded the home of a lawyer for the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, at Oraifite in Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra state.

According to the Punch newspaper, the operatives surrounded the secessionist group’s lawyer’s family house around 2.30am.

“We managed to reach Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor on phone and he confirmed the attack, saying that soldiers, joined by police and DSS operatives are shooting in different directions and are about breaking into his main compound.”

Vanguard newspaper reports that the operatives surrounded Mr. Ejiofor’s country home, shooting sporadically as they did on December 2, 2019.

The report noted that proscribed group also lamented the raid on its lawyers home, warning that it could lead to crisis.

According to Sahara Reporters, four of the lawyer's relatives were also abducted by the security operatives.

The report stated that the invading security operatives jumped the perimeter fence of the compound after cutting its security cable.

Meanwhile, a group of women under the aegis of the Amalgamation of Northern Women Associations, staged a protest on Saturday, June 5, in Abuja, demanding a referendum to allow secession agitators to chose whether or not to remain in Nigeria.

The coordinator of the group, Hajia Hadiza Adamu, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly to urgently call for a referendum to allow those who want to secede to do so without any war.

Adamu lamented that the secessionist agitation has turned the southeast region into a warzone, adding that northerners no longer feel safe there.

In a related development, the association of Onions Producers, Processors, and Marketers of Nigeria have threatened to stop the supplying of onion to the entire southern part of Nigeria.

According to the group, the embargo on the supply would not be lifted unless certain conditions laid down by the association are met.

The association disclosed that about N4.5 billion worth of onions and properties were destroyed by suspected hoodlums across southern states in the last few months in addition to the loss of lives of members of the association without any compensation.
