- Gernot Rohr will have to find replacements for Ekong and Collins when Nigeria and Cameroon face off again on June 8

- The two teams already clashed earlier this weekend with a lone goal from Anguissa separating both sides

- Rohr believes the absence of the two players will give him a chance to test other stars who haven't been given much playing time

Nigeria will miss the services of William Troost-Ekong and Jamilu Collins when they clash with Cameroon in the second leg of their international friendly game on Tuesday, June 8.

Both Watford and Padderborn stars were said to have picked up knocks during their earlier fixture which ended 1-0 in favour of the Indomitable Lions on Friday, June 4.

Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr will now be forced to look for a replacement for the duo in their next meeting on June 8 as both teams continued to prepare for their World Cup qualifiers in September.

Meanwhile, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa's lone goal in the 37th-minute strike was all Cameroon needed to avenge their defeat to Nigeria at the 2019 AFCON championship in Egypt.

Although Collins was on the pitch for the entirety of the game, Ekong was however replaced by debutant Valentine Ozornwafor towards the end of the game. Rohr was quoted by Goal speaking with Brila FM, saying:

“Unfortunately, we lost two other players to injury and it’ll be difficult for the second game in defence because Ekong and Collins are out; they cannot play, so I think we’ll have to manage this difficult situation."
“But it will be an opportunity, perhaps also to play with three defenders only, and to change the system a bit; to try something different, that’s why we are happy to have this second game.”

Meanwhile, the German-born boss believes the outcome of the game does not overshadow the positives he learnt from the game.

What Gernot Rohr said after Nigeria's 1-0 defeat to Cameroon

Legit.ng earlier reported that Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr was excited with his players despite their 1-0 defeat to African rivals Cameroon in an international friendly played in Austria earlier this weekend.

Andre Anguissa's lone goal from about 30 yards out in the 37th minute ensured the Indomitable Lions avenged their AFCON 2019 defeat to Nigeria.

But the German-born coach believes the result was meaningless compared to the impact the game had on his players.
