Chelsea reward another veteran with bumper new deal after Champions League success

Thiago Silva has been given a new one-year deal to remain at the Stamford Bridge until the end of the 2021-22 campaign, Goal, Chelsea.

The 36-year-old arrived west London last season as a free agent after a lengthy spell with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian center-back reunited with his former boss Thomas Tuchel as he was fully involved in his team's Champions League success.

The German boss and Silva signed a new deal on the same day as they were given a two-year and a year renewal respectively.

Silva showed incredible level of fitness despite his age and added experience in to the young defenders in the team.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia who was excited with Silva's development in the told the club's website:

"When we brought Thiago Silva in last summer, we knew we were adding a world-class player to the squad. Thiago has duly shown everyone at Chelsea his immense quality throughout this season, and he has had a huge influence on and off the pitch for us.
"We said when he signed that we hoped Thiago would add new trophies to his impressive list of honours, and he has done just that with our success in the Champions League this weekend. We now hope that he carries on in exactly the same fashion in the coming year."

Silva is currently in camp with the Brazilian national team ahead of the Copa America in the next few days.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Maurizio Sarri is reportedly in talks with Lazio shortly after former boss Simone Inzaghi left the club to join Inter Milan, Daily Mail.

The 62-year-old has been out of work for a year after being sacked as Juventus boss despite winning the Serie A title in 2091-20 season.

According to Italian news media outlet Calciomercato, the former Chelsea boss is being wooed by the Serie A club to become their new manager.
