Sad Day In Premier League As Arsenal lose Former Goalkeeper

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Allan Miller has passed away aged 51.

Westbromwich Albion, a club which Miller also played for, confirmed the tragic news on Thursday, June 3.

“We are desperately saddened to learn of the passing of former goalkeeper Alan Miller,” the club said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Alan’s family and friends at this terribly sad time.” Westbrom tweeted.

A number of Miller’s former teammates including Lee Dixon and David Seaman also shared their condolence messages.

The cause of the late goalkeeper’s death is yet to be made public.

As a player, Miller was part of the Arsenal side that won the FA youth cup in 1988 and he kicked off his senior career with the Gunners.

He made a handful of appearances for Arsenal before embarking on loan spells at West Brom, Plymouth and Birmingham.

Miller also formed part of the Arsenal squad that won the FA Charity shield in 1991 as well as the 1993 FA Cup/League Cup domestic double and the 1994 European Cup Winners’ Cup in Copenhagen.

He joined Middlesbrough in 1994 at a time when the club was in England’s second tier and helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League in his first season.

Having spent three years with West Brom, he moved to Blackburn where he won another League cup winners medal in 2002.

Miller is the latest former Premier League star to pass away in 2021 after the likes of Steve Conroy, Alan McLoughlin and Frank Worthington.

In other news, Arsenal on Thursday, June 3 announced the release of three senior players including David Luiz.

Dani Ceballos, Matt Ryan and Martin Odegaard were also released by the club as loan deals for a number of them came to an end.

Odegaard and Ceballos were brought in on loan from Real Madrid while Matt Ryan was recruited on loan from Brighton as cover for goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Legendary Premier League manager Arsene Wenger has singled out N'Golo Kante for praise, claiming the Chelsea star is currently Europe's best all-round midfielder.

Kante has received accolades from all quarters in recent weeks, all thanks to his outstanding end to the season for the Blues.

The midfielder played a central role in Chelsea's Champions League glory on Saturday, May 29, in Porto, picking the Man of the Match award.
