The former governor insisted that he remains a staunch and bonafide member of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and described the report as a piece of fake news, Nigerian Tribune also reported

For clarity, Akinduro explained that his principal at a book launch in the state spoke passionately on security and its importance as the presidency builds on a lasting legacy.

The media aide said:

“It is noteworthy that at Hon Akinlaja’s book presentation, Dr Mimiko harped on the theme of security, by advising the President on the centrality of the security challenge to his legacy.
“No where was any mention made or discussion held on any possible defection to any party. Dr. Mimiko remains in the Zenith Labour Party.”

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo might fail to retain the state in 2023 if the gale of defection hitting the party continues.
