Breaking: Fear Rises as Gunmen Kill Nigerian Governor's Aide

- A top security aide of Governor Samuel Ortom who was a police commissioner, Christopher Dega, was killed on Tuesday, June 1

- Before he became security aide of the Benue governor, Dega was the police commissioner in Borno and Delta

- The deceased Assistant Inspector-General was shot dead by yet-to-be-identified criminals in Jos, the capital of Plateau state

Jos, Plateau state - In another round of attack, unknown gunmen on Tuesday, June 1, killed a senior special assistant on security to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd).

According to a report from The Nation, Diga who hailed from Katsina-Ala LGA of the state was shot in the chest several times on Tuesday in Jos, the capital of Plateau.

AIG Dega was known to have had a successful career in the Nigerian Police Force and was a commissioner of police in Borno and Edo, Daily Nigerian also reported.

Meanwhile, three soldiers attached to Mohammed Babangida, the son of a former Nigerian military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, died in an auto crash along the Minna-Abuja road.

The security officers were identified as Afolabi, Tanko, and Jibril. This happened after one of the vehicles in a convoy had a head-on collision with a trailer loaded with perishable goods on Monday, May 31.

Mohammed, who narrowly escaped death, was in a bus alongside some family members behind the affected vehicle.

One of the soldiers who sustained serious injuries as a result of the impact of the collision is now receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja.

A family member who spoke on Babangida's position on the disaster said:

“His Excellency is very touched by the incident, it could be anybody in that convoy, they have since been buried.”

Police speak on Gulak's death

The police command in Imo had earlier revealed why gunmen who killed Ahmed Gulak, the late former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got easy access to him.

The commissioner of police, Abutu Yaro, through the command's spokesman, Bala Alkana, on Sunday, May 30, noted that knowing the fragile security situation in the state, Gulak did not inform the security agency about his movement.
