Spanish giants Barcelona have released a statement claiming they have fully signed Emerson Royal from La Liga rivals Real Betis.

It was gathered that the player was initially co-owned by both clubs, having joined forces to bring the Brazilian to the La Liga two years ago.

Barcelona activated their option for the outright purchase of the 22-year-old for €9million (£8million/$11million) and he will be part of the squad for the 2021-22 season.

The Catalan club said in a statement via their website:

"FC Barcelona have informed Real Betis Balompie that they are exercising their right to bring back Emerson Royal from 1 July after two seasons on loan at the Andalusian club.

"Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil on 14 January 1999, Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior, better known as Emerson Royal, is an attacking right-back who will be involved in the upcoming Copa America with the Brazilian national team."

Barcelona earlier sealed a five-year deal for out-of-contract Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia this summer.

The 20-year-old will have a staggering £343 million inserted in his contract by the Catalan club to prevent other suitors from luring him away.

Garcia will become the second player to join the Camp Nou outfit this summer after Sergio Aguero.

Since he moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2019, the youngster played 35 games for the Manchester club in all competitions and assisted just one goal in the process as reported by BBC Sport reports.
