Uncertainty As PDP Governor Speaks on Alleged Plans to Join APC

- Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state who been speculated to be desirous of defecting to the APC has made clarifications over the issue

- Matawalle has explained the reasons why he dissolved his cabinet, a move which came as a surprise in Zamfara state

- The politician was declared governor on May 24, 2019, after the Supreme Court disqualified all the APC candidates in the state in the general election of that year

Gusau, Zamfara state – The Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle, has reacted to reports claiming that he plans to defect from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12.

According to Premium Times, the governor said he has not yet taken a decision or fixed a date for defecting to the APC.

He also dismissed the claim that the dissolution of his cabinet was connected to his defection plans.

The governor said:

“I dissolved the cabinet because after two years, it is time to reinvigorate my government for the second half of my tenure.''

Matawalle did not pledge his loyalty to PDP

When questioned if he was making consultations about joining the APC, Matawalle said he was always engaged in consultations with the people and leaders in the state on political issues.

However, the governor was silent on whether he would remain in the PDP.

Meanwhile, Governor Matawalle has approved the suspension of the Emir of Dansadau, Hussaini Umar, and the district head of Nasarawa Mailayi, Bello Wakkala, over alleged ties with bandits in the state.

Daily Nigerian reported that the governor's media aide, Zailani Bappa, said in a statement issued on Monday, May 31, that the suspension was with immediate effect.

The governor also directed the district head of Dansadau, Nasiru Muhammad S/Kudu, to oversee the affairs of the emirate.

In another news, the Zamfara governor attributed the rising cases of banditry in the state to the lack of quick response from security personnel.

Nigerian Tribune reported that the governor added that the state needs more troops to meet up the current security challenges.
