Pep Guardiola has been scolded by Germany legend Lothar Mathaus of robbing Man City players and fans of the prestigious Champions League title, Daily Mail.

The Spanish boss came under huge criticisms for his team's selection against Chelsea as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

Guardiola's men did not have a holding midfielder in his squad including the likes of Fernandinho and Rodrygo as well as a natural striker.

The Citizens struggled to breakthrough Chelsea's resolve as they had failed to force a save from Edouard Mendy in the entire 90 minutes of the game.

Mathaus believed that City's loss in the Champions league final could affect Guardiola's dressing room as he wrote on Column Sky:

"He stole the Champions League from the club and the fans through his line-up and he has to rightly hear the harsh criticism from all sides now."

The German legend also pointed out that players performed badly because they were not used to the position their manager Guardiola instructed them to play in.

Mathaus added:

"Some of the players on the field didn't even know where they were going because he placed them in positions that were unfamiliar to them.
"That's the worst thing a coach can do. Inexplicable and unforgivable. He's guaranteed to have lost a lot of credit for everyone, both internally and externally. Most of all with his players. And that can hardly be regained.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Pep Guardiola's time at Manchester City is over now."
