President Buhari Appoints Michael Akabogu As the New Managing Director of NSITF

- Michael Akabogu is now the new managing director of NSITF, according to the presidency in a statement made available on social media

- The appointment followed the recommendation of a panel that investigated the NSITF

- Meanwhile, the appointment of Engr. Abdulrasheed Lawal has been terminated by the federal government following the investigation

Abuja, Nigeria: The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) now has a new managing director. This follows the appointment of Dr Michael Akabogu by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Also, approval was given for the reconstitution of the NSITF management board after the outcome of the Presidential Joint Board and Audit Investigation Panel.

The panel was set up in July 2020 to investigate the infractions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007, and the Financial Regulations (FR) in the NSITF.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the presidency and shared on its Twitter page.

Going further, the federal government has terminated the appointment of the head of procurement department Engr. Abdulrasheed Lawal from the public service.

Why Buhari appointed Yahaya

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the federal government disclosed the rationale behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Major General Faruk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.

The government made the clarification via the minister of defence, Major-General Bashir Salihi-Magashi (rtd) in a statement issued on Friday, May 28.

The statement issued by the minister's spokesman, Mohammad Abdulkadri, and seen by Legit.ng, said President Buhari's choice was fuelled by patriotism and the need for national cohesion.

Buhari not favouring the north

In other news, following the controversy that has trailed various appointments made by President Buhari, the presidency recently responded, saying the positions were not in the favour of northerners.

Legit.ng reported that the presidency was reacting to the fears expressed in some quarters that Buhari's appointments are skewed to favour the north.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, on Monday, February 1, refuted the claims during an appearance on AriseTV. He claimed that many Nigerians have a wrong perception of the appointments made by the Buhari-led administration.
