Sad News as Gunmen Kill Former Judge in Enugu, Steal his SUV

- Gunmen have ended the life of a former judge, Justice Stanley Nnaji, in Enugu state after they attacked and shot him

- Also, report claims the daredevil criminals stole the judge's Mercedes Benz Sport Utility Vehicle after killing him

Enugu, Enugu state: In what will continue to surprise Nigerians, another criminal activity has occurred in Enugu state. This time, a former Enugu state judge has lost his life.

Justice Stanley Nnaji lost his life after gunmen shot him and also stole his Mercedes Benz Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), Nigerian Tribune reports.

The killers who are three in number, according to the newspaper, double-crossed him along Ebeano Tunnel, Enugu, dragged him out and drove his car away after killing him, Guardian added.

Police react

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed the incident.

According to the Enugu state police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, the gunmen trailed him from an unknown location to where they shot him and took his car away.

He however said that the command has launched a manhunt for the criminals.

Ndukwe stated:

“The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by doctors on duty and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. We assure that no stone would be left unturned in fishing out perpetrators of the heinous crime.
“We also urge residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and assist the police with useful information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the assailants."

Police sergeant killed

Meanwhile, Loveday Obilonu, a police sergeant was shot dead in Owerri, the Imo state capital, by gunmen who are yet to be identified.

The policeman was discovered dead in a gutter at Okwuuratta Road, off Chukwuma Nwoha Road, Owerri North, on Wednesday, May 19.

Attack on INEC offices

In other news, the spate of recent attacks on properties and structures of the INEC has forced the chairman of the agency, Mahmood Yakubu, to open up on its consequences.

In his address to top INEC staff and journalists on Wednesday, May 19, Yakubu stated that apart from the fact that replacing the damaged equipment will be extremely difficult, the trend is having a serious toll on the commission's commitment to strengthen the nation's electoral process.

Yakubu claimed that the perpetrators are systematic in their evil operations.

In another report, hoodlums attacked one of the offices of INEC. This time, the commission's office in Igboeze South council area of Enugu state was razed by hoodlums.
