Gunmen Block, Kidnap travellers Along Kaduna-Abuja Highway

In another big blow to Nigeria, the Kaduna-Abuja highway was blocked by kidnappers. The criminals also abducted travellers during their operation.

The incident happened around 4: pm on Friday, May 28, Daily Trust reports.

The gunmen attacked motorists closed to Kurmin Kare village along the highway to abduct their victims.

A resident was quoted to have said:

“We don’t know the number of people abducted but the vehicle is still there as we speak by the roadside close to Kurmin Kare village where the incident happened,."

Meanwhile, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said they heard of an incident around the area but they have directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to visit the community to ascertain what actually happened.

According to him, the command is yet to receive the report from the DPO.

Legit.ng also reported that the leadership of Nigeria's National Assembly (NASS) opened up on the true state of the country's security challenges and their attendant effects.

During a summit organised by the House of Representatives' special committee on security on Wednesday, May 26, the speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, lamented over the increasing activities of bandits and terrorists in Nigeria.

Gbajabiamila noted that at such a time when insurgency is shaking the foundation of the country, it is proper to admit that the efforts to tackle insecurity have so far not yielded the desired results.

Meanwhile, Senator Clifford Ordia of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called on the federal government to overhaul Nigeria's security architecture, warning that no one was safe anymore in the country.

Ordia said this after an armed gang attacked his convoy while he was returning from Edo to Abuja on Monday, April 26.

The federal lawmaker representing Edo state central told journalists on Wednesday, April 28, that the gunmen opened fire on his convoy along the Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi, injuring three of his security aides.
