Lionel Messi has reportedly signed a two-year extension to end all speculations linking with a move away from Barcelona this summer.

The Argentine superstar was already being targeted by Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain with his current deal set to expire next month.

However, Barca president Joan Laporta might have used his long-time relationship to get Messi's dad to commit the player's future to the club for the next two seasons.

Sources say that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner will be joined by his countryman Sergio Aguero after leaving the Etihad Stadium side this summer as reported by SunSport quoting Spanish news website El Confidencial.

However, the publication claims Messi's new salary and other bonuses are yet to be finalised due to the ongoing internal audit on the club's financial situation ordered following Laporta’s March election as President. El Confidencial reported:

“The imaginative formula of paying Messi his new salary over 10 years has been explored because Messi’s intention is that he remains at the club when he retires from the game.”

Messi returned to his home country earlier this week to join Argentine teammates in a private jet from El Prat airport along with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and three sons.

The Barcelona legend will partake in two World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia on June 3 and 8 before the start of the Copa America tournament.

Recalled he was excused from the club's last game of the season against Eibar and he is expected to come out guns blazing having rested well enough from last season's activities.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona legend Lionel Messi continued his dominance in the Spanish League after winning his eighth-highest goal scorers award in the recently concluded season.

Despite missing the Catalans' last game of the season against Eibar, the 33-year-old already scored enough goals to see him win the prestigious prize for the fifth consecutive campaign.

He beats Hugo Sanchez and Alfredo Di Stefano who the same recognition four straight times during their reigns.
