The Supreme Court has dismissed the certificate forgery case filed against Governor Godwin Obaseki by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The apex court in a ruling on Friday, May 28, ruled that the APC and one of its members, Williams Edobor, failed to prove their case against the Edo state governor, Vanguard reported.

According to The Nation, a five-man panel of justices of the apex court In a unanimous decision stated that the appellants could not provide any disclaimer from the school that the certificate, whose authenticity they challenged, was not issued to Obaseki by the institution.

The court upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which earlier affirmed the January 9, 2021 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja upholding the authenticity of the first decree certificate in Classics issued to Obaseki by the University of Ibadan (UI).

In another report, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the expulsion of one of its chieftains in Edo state, Kassim Afegbua, for alleged anti-party activities.

Afegbua's expulsion was disclosed in a letter by the Edo state chairman of PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, addressed to the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, Leadership reported.

The Edo chapter of the party explained that it took the decision after the chieftain failed to appear before all the disciplinary committees set up by the chapter in Edo state.

Still on politics, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, on Thursday, May 27 said he joined the ruling APC for the benefit of the state.

Ayade said this while addressing APC youth groups who held a rally to welcome him to the party at the governor’s office in Calabar, the state capital.
