Panic as 100 Students Hospitalised in Ekiti after Inhaling Poisonous Chemicals, Health Ministry Shares Photos

- A fumigation exercise has caused a serious health crisis in Ekiti state College of Health Sciences and Technology

- About 100 students who inhaled the chemicals used for the fumigation were hospitalised

About 100 students of the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Ijero Ekiti, Ekiti state, were hospitalised after inhaling chemicals used for a fumigation exercise in the school.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Ekiti state's Ministry of Health and Human Services sighted by Legit.ng on Wednesday, May 26.

The ministry which described the fumigation as "ill-timed", however, noted that some of the students have been discharged after receiving treatment at the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero.

Legit.ng gathers that when the state commissioner for health, Oyebanji Filani got to the hospital, only 36 students were still admitted as others had been treated and discharged.

Two of the 36 students on admission have been reportedly transferred to Afe Babalola Multi-System Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, Ido, for further treatment and observation.

The ministry stated that it is closely monitoring the hospitalised students to ensure they fully recover just as it gave assurance that the incident will be investigated to prevent another occurrence.

It appealed to the students of the college who are reportedly upset about the incident to remain calm and not destroy health equipment and facilities in the school.

In another report, a special adviser to Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state on basic, secondary and vocational/technical education, Professor Francisca Aladejana, is dead.

Legit.ng gathered that Aladejana, who was a former provost of the college of education, Ikere Ekiti, now Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, died on Monday, May 17, while working in her office.

The deceased was said to have arrived at her office as usual on Monday morning but later slumped while on a phone call.
