Buhari Laments Over Insecurity, Says it's Threatening National Development of his Dream

- President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the rising level of insecurity across the country

- The Nigerian leader explained that the security situation is affecting his desires for national development

- Buhari, however, expressed optimism that Nigeria shall overcome just like many times throughout history

The growing insecurity and other threats bedeviling Nigeria are seriously affecting the country's national development, according to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Buhari on Wednesday, May 26, lamented that the insecurity was threatening his desires to achieve his ambitions for the nation.

He made the remark through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha at the security summit in Abuja.

While speaking at the event organised by the House of Representatives of his dream, Buhari gave the assurance that everything would be done to end the ugly development.

The Nigerian leader explained that efforts should be made to identify the root causes of national security challenges so that solutions would be implemented.

He said:

“Insecurity, as you are aware, impacts on the citizens and the economy and the governance machinery without regard to political, religious, ethnic or other affiliations. It challenges the foundation of our nationhood and stands in the way of our achieving our highest ambitions for Nigeria."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a message has been sent to President Buhari by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF). The message is simple: Protect the nation’s territorial integrity and secure the lives of Nigerians.

Failure to do this, the forum asked him to accept that he is incapable of leading the nation. Going further, the forum condemned what it described as an attack on Fulanis in some part of the south, claiming northern people now live in fear.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by its director, publicity and advocacy, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. Ahmed also posited that the majority of Nigerians don’t want war and as such want the country to remain as one.

In a related development, President Buhari met the chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Caretaker Committee and Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni.

Buhari also met with the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Also, the governor of Niger state, Sani Bello was present at the meeting with the president.
