Mendy suffered an injury scare on the final day of the season when the Blues took on Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday, May 23.

The Senegalese is understood to have collided with the post midway through the encounter and consequently suffered a rib injury.

Unable to see out the rest of the match, Tuchel was forced to replace Mendy with Kepa Arrizabalaga at the break as his side went on to lose 2-1.

Speaking after the match, the German tactician admitted he was worried about the extent of the ex-Lille shot-stopper's injury as it also came just days before Chelsea's Champions League final meeting with Man City.

However, speaking in a pre-match conference on Monday, May 24, Tuchel revealed initial scans have shown the Senegal international's issue is not very serious.

The ex-PSG boss went on to divulge he will be waiting for further updates to establish if the Keeper will form part of the travelling squad to Porto, Portugal.

"The update is we still have hope he joins training on Wednesday and he joins the group. He made a huge improvement with the management of pain. So we need a further update on Wednesday but we hope to have him back," Tuchel said in his presser.
"The images don’t show the injury is too serious so we are positive. But every hour counts now and every day counts. Hopefully, the team around Edou and himself can do enough and it would be a good boost," he added.

Despite capping up a remarkable season with another crown, their prize money did not replicate their brilliant display on the pitch.

The Citizens went home with £163million, with £123m for TV rights and the remaining £40m for finishing top of the table.
