Five Reported Killed As Attackers Burn Down Police Division in Enugu State

An emerging report indicates that some hoodlums have attacked the Iwollo Oghe, Ezeagu police division in Enugu state.

Guardian reported that the attackers killed five persons during the raid on the police station on Monday midnight, May 24.

The report claimed the attackers also burned down the police division building completely.

The Nation reported that police personnel were among those killed in the attack.

The newspaper stated that vehicles and other property in the premises of the police division were burnt down.

The spokesperson of the command, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident.

He refrained from making any official statement about the issue.

Ndukwe said he was awaiting the on-the-spot assessment of the damages and casualties by the Enugu police commissioner, Mohammed Aliyu.

Meanwhile, the Lagos and Ogun state police commands have beefed up security in different parts of their respective states to avert any possible attack.

This followed a statement by the police commissioner in police, Hakeem Odumosu, during a security summit chaired by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Odumosu said the command was investigating threats by armed groups to attack soft targets in the commercial city.

In another news, the acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali has launched a new security operation to check the separatist agenda of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the southeast zone.

Still on security news, the police command in Imo state says it has arrested five members of IPOB/ESN who allegedly masterminded the murder of Sgt. Joseph Nwaka and other security operatives in the southeast state.

The command added that the feat was achieved by the crime prevention and control strategies adopted under the leadership of CP Abutu Yaro, Nigerian Tribune reported.

The commissioner of police, Yaro, disclosed this through a statement issued in Owerri by the command's spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu.
