Just In: PDP Deputy Governor Dumps Opposition Party, Joins APC

- The deputy governor of Cross River state, Prof Esu, has announced his defection to the ruling APC

- Esu said he decided to officially announce the defection to debunk the rumours that he didn't defect to the APC alongside his boss, Ayade

- The deputy governor also showed his APC membership registration form to let the public know that he is no longer a PDP member

Professor Ivara Ejemot Esu, the deputy governor of Cross River state, has officially resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The deputy governor's official defection comes days after his principal, Ben Ayade, joined the ruling party.

Africa Independent Television (AIT) reported that the deputy governor decided to make his defection official on Monday, May 24, to stop speculations that he did not follow Governor Ayade to the APC.

He said he is in support of his boss in his effort to move Cross River development to the next level, noting that the south-south had never been in opposition with the federal government since 1999 until the current dispensation.

In a video published on Channels TV's Youtube page, Prof Esu confirmed that he is now a fully registered member of the APC and displayed his registration form for all to see.

In a related development, Mike Etaba, a member of the House of Representatives from Cross River, has dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.

Etaba said his decision was informed by the defection of Governor Ayade from the PDP to the APC.

The lawmaker officially registered for the APC in his political ward in Obubra local government area of the state at the weekend.

Meanwhile, members of the PDP have been warned against joining the ruling APC.

Liyel Imoke, the former governor of Cross River state, issued the warning on Sunday, May 23, while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar.

According to the former governor, APC is a political party that is collapsing, adding that it is not the best place to go for Cross River state.
