It was reported earlier in the week United have made inquiries about the star forward over a possible summer swoop.

However, the Englishman has come out to declare his intent to see out the rest of his deal Southampton but refused to rule out a switch to Old Trafford.

"I've got a contract until the summer of 2022. I haven't really acknowledged them (transfer rumours), Daily Mail quoted him saying.
"I've just been focused on each game. Ultimately, I've still got a contract here. My main focus is to finish the season strong," he added.

Ings' current contract at St Mary's is due to expire next summer, but with the Saints yet to agree a new deal with him, they are better off selling him now rather than lose him for free next year.

The former Liverpool hitman is widely regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in the English top-flight, scoring an impressive 12 goals this season in an injury-plagued campaign.

It is believed the Red Devils are in the market for fresh legs that can help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer compete for titles next term.

Ings said to have emerged as a top priority, with Solskjaer understood to be in the market for another forward.

This is despite United managing to convince Edinson Cavani to extend his Old Trafford stay by a further year earlier in the month.

Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland are the other players who have also been linked with a possible move to the red side of Manchester.

Ole's men are already poised to end the season on a high, having all but secured a second-place finish in the domestic league.

They are also due to take on Villarreal in the final of this season's Europa League tournament in a match that offers them a golden chance to crown their campaign with a trophy.
