Controversy As PDP Announces Expulsion of Top Chieftain, Gives Reason

- The PDP said Kassim Afegbua is no longer a member of the party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the expulsion of one of its chieftains in Edo state, Kassim Afegbua, for alleged anti-party activities.

Afegbua's expulsion was disclosed in a letter by the Edo state chairman of PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, addressed to the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, Leadership reported.

The Edo chapter of the party explained that it took the decision after the chieftain failed to appear before all the disciplinary committees set up by the chapter in Edo state.

The letter which announced Afegbua’s expulsion read partly:

“Mr Kassim Afegbua as a member of PDP hitherto engaged in series of anti-party activities in his ward before and during Edo State Gubernatorial election of September 19, 2020.

According to The Guadian, Afegbua’s expulsion has been unanimously affirmed by the Edo state disciplinary committee of the PDP.

Meanwhile, a politician in Abia state has claimed that the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, is set to formally defect from the PDP to the APC.

Legit.ng recalled that Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state recently defected from the PDP to the APC.

The governor claimed that more governors elected on the platform of the Peoples PDP would soon join the ruling party.

In another news, the presence of armed police officers at the secretariat of the PDP in Calabar, the capital of Cross Rivers was obvious on Saturday, May 22.

Daily Trust reported that the security operatives were probably deployed to the secretariat to avert chaos over possible eviction of the PDP from the building.

According to Vanguard, the security men stood on guard as some persons repainted the building with colours associated with the APC.
