Commotion in Kaduna As 100 Armed Thugs Invade NLC Office

- Protesting workers in Kaduna state have been attacked by armed thugs

Emerging reports indicate that some thugs armed with dangerous weapons invaded the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) secretariat in Kaduna state on Wednesday, May 18.

Daily Trust reported that the thugs numbering about 100 stormed the facility in an attempt to disrupt the protest by workers in the state.

However, the police detachment in the state displaced the hoodlums from the secretariat.

The spokesperson for the Kaduna police command, Muhammad Jalige, said about 20 of the thugs were arrested.

He stated that security personnel have been deployed to avert the breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, has alleged that the Kaduna government has hired 50 truckloads of thugs to attack protesting workers in the state.

Wabba stated this on Wednesday morning, May 19 while featuring on a Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.

Wabba alleged that the governor paid N500 each to some youths to disrupt the demonstration of the workers who protested the mass sacking of civil servants in the state on Tuesday, May 18.

In another report, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has threatened to go on a nationwide strike if the federal government fails to caution Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna who has declared the leadership of the organised labour wanted in the state.

There are fears that should NUPENG proceed on a strike, it will affect the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country.

NUPENG said in a statement by its national president, Williams Akporeha, that it had received a report of a clandestine move of Governor El-Rufai to put the lives of the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, and other union leaders at risk.
