Photo Emerges As Nigeria Police Arrest Suspected Bandit in Imo State

A suspected bandit identified as Michael Osundu has been arrested in Imo state.
The Imo police command on Sunday, May 16, alleged that the suspect is one of the masterminds of the April 5, 2021 attack on the Nigeria Correctional Service Custodial Centre, Owerri, where some inmates escaped.

According to The Guardian, Orlando Ikeokwu, the spokesman for the command, said the suspect who claimed to be a police spy was arrested with one English pump action rifle and 26 live cartridges, and a pair of police uniform with the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The police spokesman said:
‘’In line with the mandate and directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Baba Usman, to restore peace and tranquillity in Imo State as well as the determination and adoption of a robust crime prevention and detection strategy of the new Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Abutu Yaro, operatives of the command, while on surveillance and confidence-building patrol, arrested one Michael Osundu of Owerri, who claimed to be based in London, United Kingdom.''

The Punch stated that the commissioner of police has reportedly ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter with a view to discovering his level of culpability and possibly arresting other suspects.
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has declared that he knows where the bandits terrorising the country reside.
PM News reported that he called on the states and local governments to join the federal government in tackling the security challenges in Nigeria.
Legit.ng gathered that Mohammed, who made this known in Bauchi on Thursday, May 13, said the federal government could not tackle the challenges alone.
In another news, Brigadier General Sani Usman, a retired spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, has advised against politicising security issues in the country.
Amid the rising security challenges in the country, the House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 27, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately declare a state of emergency.
However, Brigadier General Usman told Legit.ng he does not believe declaring a state of emergency on insecurity will address the current challenges.
