Speaking further on the programme, he also commended the decision of southern governors to ban open grazing of cattle in the region.

He said:

”Open grazing should stop, it is the right time to stop it because it is not doing us any good in this country today, and because of the limitless of land space, there has always been this fight between the herders and the farmers and the only way to stop it is to ask that we stop open grazing and make a law.”

While describing the action as a welcome development, Ohuabunwa stressed the need for the forum to take a further step by legalising the ban on open grazing.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that during a crucial meeting in Asaba, Delta state capital on Tuesday, May 11, the forum of southern governors agreed to ban open grazing in the region.

This critical decision was announced by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the chairman of the forum, on behalf of his counterparts.

Akeredolu said the resolution is part of the governors' efforts to tackle the menace of insecurity that emanates from the unchecked activities of herdsmen.

In a related development, the decision of southern governors to ban open grazing of cattle is not sitting well with Senator Ali Ndume.

The chairman, Senate committee on army, said the governors were deviating from the real problem which has nothing to do with open grazing.

The lawmaker who spoke with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, May 12, argued that the issue of insecurity is unique to each geopolitical zone.
