It was gathered that the tragedy happened not long after Governor Okezie Ikpeazu left the area where he organised a reception for Honourable Nnenna Ukeje, the immediate past House of Representatives member who represented Bende Federal Constituency.

A superintendent of police in Lagos who spoke with Legit.ng on condition of anonymity said the attacks on public security infrastructure are increasing in Nigeria due to the decay in government and the obsolete nature of the police system.

He noted that the country is still following the old British ordinances that set the security architecture in such a way that the high and mighty are protected against the people, hence the frustration among the masses.

Even more, the top police operative pointed out that a lot needs to be done to catch up with and overtake the trend in criminality.

He said:

"Some police officers mingle with persons they are supposed to protect the people from and unknowingly forget their primary duties because there is hopelessness in the land.
