BREAKING: Nigerian Ex-chief of Defence Staff is Reported Dead

A former chief of defence staff, Lieutenant General Joshua Dogonyaro, who served in the regime of late General Sani Abacha, has been confirmed dead at the age of 80 years.
Family sources revealed that General Dogonyaro passed on early on Thursday, May 13, at Jos University Teaching Hospital.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Airforce Hospital in Jos, Plateau, Nigerian Tribune reports.
Major Gabriel Adofiku (retd), a former officer of Dogonyaro, told journalists that an erstwhile military chief died on Thursday around 3:30 am.
According to The Independent, one of the children of Dogonyaro, Joseph, who spoke on his father's death said:
“Daddy has been sick for some time until yesterday when he had a stroke and we rushed him to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for medical attention.
“Unfortunately, early this morning (Thursday), around 3.00am precisely, he breathed his last.
“His death comes as a rude shock to us as a family. We are going to miss his love and warm as a grandfather, father, brother, uncle and supporter."
Meanwhile, a former military governor of Oyo and Ondo state, Ahmed Usman, had reportedly died of an undisclosed illness.
The retired colonel died around 3am on Wednesday, April 14, in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The former governor was taken for burial in his village at Okura-Lafia, in Kogi state. The death of Usman from a member of his family. One of the nephews of the late ex-military governor said:
“Oga is gone. We lost him this morning.”
The late Usman was appointed governor of Ondo State in September 1994. While governor of Ondo State, Usman installed Oba Adeleye Orisagbemi as the Attah of Ayede Ekiti.

He governed Oyo from August 1996 to August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.
In a related development, the Emir of Lere in Kaduna state, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, had died at the age of 77.
The monarch who was a military governor of Sokoto state during the General Babangida regime reportedly died on Saturday morning, April 10, in Kaduna.
Family members of the late traditional ruler told newsmen that he died after a brief illness.
A nephew of the emir, Hassan Mohammed said:
“He is my uncle. We missed him this Sarturday morning. It is indeed a loss for us and the whole family."
