Amber Zone: UK Restricts Citizens from Travelling to Nigeria, Gives Reason

- The UK has released a travel advisory to all its citizens intending to leave the nation temporarily

- The government also restricted residents from travelling to 183 countries included in its amber zone list

- Nigeria is one of the countries that UK residents cannot choose as destinations at the moment

Nigeria has been included in the United Kingdom (UK)'s amber zone list of countries its citizens cannot travel to as it prepares to resume international flights from Monday, May 17.

According to the UK transport secretary, Grant Shapps, the British government has finally lifted the stay-in-the-UK ban, BBC reports.

However, Nigeria is among the 183 countries that cannot be destinations for citizens and legal residents in the nation intending to travel for holidays, parties, or relaxation, The Telegraph also reported.

Added to this, the government issued a travel advisory which citizens from the amber zone countries must adhere to ten days before being permitted into the UK.

Meanwhile, a former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, had explained why medical tourism could not be banned without an enabling law to back it up.

He made this claim on his Twitter page on Thursday, April 1, two days after President Muhammadu Buhari flew to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up. Sani, who represented Kaduna Central during the eighth National Assembly added that such a bill would face two deadly huddles.

Speaking further, the human rights activist noted that the legislators go to Egypt, Dubai, or India for checkups while the executives travel to Germany, the US, or the UK.

This development came a day after Sani reacted to the statement by the presidency that it was not necessary for President Buhari to transmit power to his deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The presidency had earlier declared that it was unnecessary for Buhari to transmit power to Osinbajo before his latest medical trip to London.
