Five Police Officers Killed As Gunmen Attack Another Police Headquarters in Nigeria

A divisional police headquarters in Odoro Ikpe in Ini local government area of the Akwa-Ibom state has been attacked by gunmen.

Channels TV reported that five police officers including the wife of an officer were killed during the attack.

Facilities, vehicles, and other valuables in the building were also reportedly destroyed by the gunmen.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Odiko MacDon, confirmed the incident.

He said:

“Yes, there was an attack of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Odoro Ikpe. Six persons, including five officers and a wife of an officer, were killed.''

An official of the Akwa Ibom state government told Premium Times that the gunmen shot the officers dead while they were asleep.

The source stated that the attackers then set ablaze the administrative block of the station.

According to the official:

“They went to the police quarters where the police officers were sleeping and shot them dead.''

In another news, gunmen have reportedly killed five people during an attack on a vigilance office in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra state.

The Nation reported that the office and vehicles of the vigilance group in the area were also razed by the attackers.

The hoodlums were said to have carried out the attack around 7pm on Sunday, May 9.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) not to hoist its flags in his domain.

This was contained in a statement issued by one of the media aides of the governor, Kelvin Ebiri, and seen by Legit.ng.

Ebiri noted that Governor Wike made his stance known when traditional rulers, political and opinion leaders of Ekpeye nationality paid him a solidarity visit at Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, May 4.
