Catholic Archbishop Reveals Father Mbaka's Real Offence

- Father Mbaka has been accaused of violating his Catholic oath by dabbling in partisan politics

Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, the metropolitan Catholic archbishop of Abuja Diocese, says Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka violated his oath the moment he dabbled into partisan politics.

PM News reported that Kaigama stated this while commenting on the Father Mbaka/presidency saga.

Mbaka, the spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry in Enugu used to be a friend of the presidency until recently when asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.

The presidency subsequently issued a statement saying Mbaka decided to attack President Buhari because his request for contracts was rejected.

However, in response, Mbaka admitted that he discussed contracts with President Buhari. The cleric said he led three men to meet with the president during his first tenure.

He further explained that the men were security experts who had offered to help in solving Nigeria’s security challenges

Mbaka goes "missing"

In the early hours of Wednesday, May 5, Father Mbaka, speculations sprouted over the whereabouts of Father Mbaka.

His supporters stormed the streets of Enugu in protest while the social media ran with the claim that he was arrested by the men of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Mbaka, however, showed up a few hours after.

Summoned by the bishop

Explaining the reason behind his disappearance, Father Mbaka said the Bishop of Enugu dioceses, Callistus Valentine Onaga, summoned him for a meeting and planned to close his ministry and keep him for 30 days to enable him pray and meditate over his activities.

He added that he was summoned over his recent comments concerning Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and his connection to the presidency.

The cleric told his congregation that the Bishop later allowed him to go and address the protesting crowd.

Mbaka's sin

Speaking to the press at a conference on the 2021 World Communications Day celebration, Bishop Kaigama reminded Mbaka of the Canon Law 285.

He reportedly explained that the law prohibits the clergy from engaging in anything that is strange and unbecoming to the Catholic clerical state.

Kaigama noted that the oath Mbaka publicly took, like other priests, remains valid till he dies.

The bishop insisted Mbaka must abide by what the Catholic church teaches and stands for.

He reiterated that Catholic leaders are not allowed to dabble into politics.

His words:

“Partisan politics is not part of our calling. If a clergy embarks on such unbecoming and foreign conduct, the church has a solution and the church knows what to do.”

Father Mbaka tackles FG again

Meanwhile, Father Mbaka has not relented in his criticism of the Nigerian government. Recently, he said heaven's anger will descend on the Muhammadu Buhari administration if the government fights him.

According to him, he speaks against the government on behalf of the Nigerian masses.
