BREAKING: 7 Policemen Feared Killed as Gunmen Attack Stations, Security Checkpoints in Rivers

Seven policemen were feared killed after some unknown gunmen on Friday night, May 7, attacked security checkpoints and police stations in Rivers state.
The Punch reported that the hoodlums attacked a police station along the Rumuji axis of the East-West Road in the state.

Legit.ng gathers that they also set the police station and some vehicles on fire with two operatives feared killed. The attack on the Rumuji police station was also reported by The Nation.
They also attacked a police checkpoint at Ogbakiri junction with two policemen feared killed and a vehicle burnt.
A checkpoint of the security outfit called C-4-i along the East-West Road was also attacked, with three operatives feared killed there.
The spokesman of the state's police command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the attack but said he would make details available after visiting the areas attacked.
It was also gathered that the state police commissioner, Eboka Friday, was leading a team to the place on Saturday morning, May 8.
Meanwhile, some unknown gunmen on Thursday night, May 6, attempted to attack Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters in Imo state.
Security operatives in a joint operation, however, repelled the attack and killed no fewer than eight of the hoodlums. They also recovered seven vehicles the attackers came with for the operation.
The gun battle between the gunmen and the security operatives was said to have lasted several hours, thereby creating panic as people scampered for safety.

In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Ibrahim Idris Kpotun, a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), said the attacks on policemen and police stations have worsened the security crisis in Nigeria.
The former IGP said there is a need to study the attack on policemen because it is very dangerous.
He said:
"It dampens the morale of serving police officers and it affects even their inputs. I think they need to tackle it urgently."
