Finally, FG Reveals the Class of People Financing Terrorism in Nigeria

- Some Nigerians will soon be prosecuted for involving themselves in terrorism-related activities

Prominent Nigerians who are sponsors of terrorism will soon face the judicial system as the federal government has perfected plans to prosecute them.

This development was disclosed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Friday, May 7, Punch reports.

Malami who did not disclose the identities of the suspects or the number of people affected made this known while speaking with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, The Cable added.

He said:

“Sometimes back, there were certain convictions of Nigerians allegedly involved in terrorism financing in the United Arab Emirates.

“I am happy to report that investigation has been ongoing for long and it has reached an advanced stage.
“Arising from the investigation, there exists, certainly, reasonable grounds for suspicion that a lot of Nigerians, high-profile, institutional, and otherwise, are involved in terrorism financing and they are being profiled for prosecution.
“In essence, it is indeed true that the government is prosecuting and it is indeed initiating processes of prosecuting those high-profile individuals that are found to be financing terrorism. It is indeed true.”

In another report, the British Minister for Africa, James Duddridge has described Nigeria’s security situation as massively complex, stressing that no partnership would resolve the multiplicity of the country’s problems, whether it is Boko Haram insurgency or a number of other issues.

Duddridge made the comments while responding to questions from journalists attached to Nigeria's ministry of foreign affairs.

The British minister had visited his Nigerian counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama on Tuesday, April 27 to discuss matters of interest between both countries when he was accosted by the reporters.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has advised the Buhari administration to restructure the country.

The group in a statement on Sunday, May 3, through its spokesperson, Jare Ajayi, stated that there was a need to return the country to a true federation.

Ajayi stated that that Afenifere has become increasingly concerned that Nigeria is on the verge of becoming a failed state due to the problems of insecurity.
