FG to Reward Innovative MSME’s in 4th Edition of National MSME Awards

The federal government through its National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) clinics initiative is set to reward the most excellent, hard-working, and innovative MSMEs across the country, in tandem to mark the 2021 United Nations (UN) World MSME Day.

Speaking on the agenda during a press briefing attended by Legit.ng on Friday, May 7 in Abuja, Tola Adekunle-Johnson, special adviser to the president on MSMEs noted that this year’s event is unique for a number of reasons.

He added that this year’s event will be a physical award ceremony as opposed to the virtual event done in 2020, due to the realities presented by COVID-19.

Adekunle-Johnson reiterated that although the categories for the awards remain the same as in 2020, a revised category; tech and innovation drive enterprise has been introduced.

Other categories for the awards include; agriculture, beauty, wellness and cosmetics, creative arts, fashion and style, leather works, furniture and woodwork, and manufacturing.

As a precursor to the award ceremony slated to hold on Sunday, June 27, the federal government is venturing into a week-long programme of events, which will include an MSME clinic event in Adamawa state on Tuesday, June 22.

Also, a national MSME discourse slated for Wednesday, June 23, and a fashion and art exhibition, aimed at showcasing the country’s heritage.

Interested participants are implored to visit the website (msmeclinics.gov.ng) to submit their applications. The application window will be opened from Monday, May 10 to Monday, May 31.

The National MSME Clinic has been tagged successful by the government since its launch in 2017 at Aba, Abia state.

It was born as an initiative to support the growth of the MSMEs sector in Nigeria.

Earlier this year, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) stated that the Buhari administration’s vision to lift at least 20 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next two years is now close at hand.

Professor Osinbajo stated this on Tuesday, January 19 in Abuja during the virtual flag-off of a cash transfer scheme initiated by the federal government, adding that the programme will help the government achieve its aspiration.

Around the same period, the federal government commenced N30,000 grants for taxi, bus, okada, Keke Napep, Uber, Bolt drivers, and cart pushers across the country.

Under the government's artisan support scheme, a total of 333,000 artisans and transport business operators nationwide got one-time operations grant of N30,000 per beneficiary to reduce the effects of income loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
