Tears as Armed Bandits Stage Fresh Attack in Northern Community, Kill 7

A report by Daily Trust indicates that seven people have reportedly been killed by bandits in an attack on Yangalu, Magama local government area of Niger state.

According to the report, bandits in large numbers on motorcycles invaded the community and shot sporadically to scare people away.

In another report by AIT, the suspects destroyed properties and foodstuff before they took off.

Sufiyanu Yahaya, the chairman of Magama local government council, commiserated with the people during his visit to Yangalu in the wake of the attack.

Yahaya assured residents of the area that measures will be taken to improve the community's security situation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that armed bandits staged a deadly attack in Kotonkoro in Mariga local government area of Niger state, killing more than 20 vigilantes.

The attack occurred on Monday, March 22, after the vigilantes engaged a group of bandits in the area.

Ibrahim Ilyasu, a member of the State House of Assembly from Mariga, narrated the incident. The lawmaker said four bodies had been recovered.

In a related development, unknown gunmen abducted Hajia Salamatu Ahmadu, the 78-year-old mother of a Niger state lawmaker, Alhaji Bello Ahmed Agwara.

The elderly woman was abducted at about 9pm on Thursday, April 29. According to the report, some heavily armed gunmen who came on four motorcycles had stormed the country home of the Niger state House of Assembly member in Agwara town.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the criminals began to shoot sporadically as people scampered for safety.

In another report, combined efforts of the military and vigilantes saved another part of a town from bandits.

It was gathered that bandits invaded Sarkin Pawa, the headquarters of Munya local government area of Niger state with sophisticated weapons.

They, however, did not succeed as they were repelled by security agents.
