BREAKING: Unknown Gunmen Attack Police Station in Ebonyi, Kill One Officer

- Ebonyi state is in the news again due to another attack on a police facility by faceless criminals

- The police station attacked this time was initially burnt during the nationwide #EndSARS protests hijacked by hoodlums

- The Ebonyi state police command has confirmed the attack which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, May 6

The Nation is reporting that gunmen in the early hours of Thursday, May 6 invaded Obiozara police station in Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state and killed one police officer.

According to the report, the gunmen invaded the station around 3 am, razed the office of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the administration building.

The gunmen also attacked the temporary station police operatives were using as an office after the initial one was razed during the #EndSARS protests.

Ebonyi state police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, confirmed the attack, saying the gunmen invaded the station in large numbers.

Blueprint newspaper quoted an eyewitness saying:

“I called one of the police officers who said they were attacked early this morning by 3 am. One Inspector was shot dead. They burnt two offices and that of the DPO and the admin’s office.
“They had burnt the main office during #EndSARS with some vehicles. They now relocated to another block around the station where this attack took place.”

Recall that some gunmen on Wednesday night, May 5, attacked Obosi police station in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state, killings two police inspectors and freeing all detainees in the cell, after which they burnt down the facility.

When contacted, the Anambra state police command spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident.

Two weeks ago, gunmen attacked a police station in Okigwe South local government area of Imo state.

During the attack, six police officers were killed, while the assailants also burnt down the police building after the attack.

Around the same period, the Kebbi police command confirmed the killing of nine of its personnel including a Divisional Police Officer by armed bandits in Sakaba local government of the state.

Nafi’u Abubakar, the Kebbi state police command spokesman, said the officers were killed during a gun duel with the terrorists on Sunday, April 25.

Two local vigilantes and an unknown number of residents also lost their lives during the attack.
